AirPort Extreme
AirPort Extreme
is Apple's wireless router. It has many functions over a
typical router. It supports the new draft 802.11n standard
as well as 802.11 a/b/g. Additionally, it now supports dual
band networking for 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz at the same time.
Another addition to the AirPort Extreme is a new feature
that allows you to create a guest network with access to
only internet if you choose so your shared printers,
folders, etc aren’t available to other users of the
network. It has been filled with other features such as USB
printer sharing, wireless hard drive sharing, support for
Time Machine wireless backups, and 1 gigabit WAN port to
hookup to a DSL or cable modem, and 3 LAN ports to plug in
via ethernet to a Mac or PC. If you're Mac or PC supports
gigabit ethernet, it will automatically utilize the extra
bandwidth. You can also plug in a USB 2.0 hub and plug a
USB printer and USB hard drive into it to better utilize
the single USB 2.0 port. Security features are WEP, WPA2,
WPA2 Enterprise, RADIUS, and MAC Address filtering as well
as an internal hardware based firewall.
